Dentistry is designed to focus on preventive care – services that not only reduce common oral health problems (i.e., tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, etc.) but also treat issues early on to avoid more serious symptoms. At Falls Family Dental, Dr. Thore encourages patients to maintain semi-annual dental checkups and cleanings to keep you and your family’s teeth and gums healthy throughout the year. If it has been more than six months since your last exam, call our Raleigh dental office to schedule a preventive dentistry appointment.

Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Regular dental checkups and cleanings are the cornerstone for better oral health and wellness. Dr. Thore will closely examine your teeth, gums, bite, and existing restorations as well as perform an oral cancer screening. Doing so allows her to check for potential problems and recommend timely treatment to mitigate worsening symptoms. We’ll also provide a professional dental cleaning, removing any plaque and tartar from your teeth and gumline before going over a proposed treatment plan for your smile.

Fluoride Treatment

Applying fluoride during a regular dental checkup can be helpful if you are prone to cavities. Even the most diligent oral hygiene routine may not be enough to keep decay away for some. Although you may be exposed to fluoride when brushing your teeth or drinking tap water, an additional application from us can establish an extra barrier of protection against decay while also helping to strengthen your existing tooth enamel.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Unconscious teeth grinding and clenching (also known as bruxism) often occur while someone is asleep, and this harmful habit can erode the enamel and lead to chronic jaw pain (TMJ/TMD). However, with a custom-made nightguard, we can protect your pearly whites and jaw joints by keeping teeth away from each other and alleviating pressure so that further damage and pain do not occur.
